Page 2 of 8 common or garden propagator Propagator Its worth mentioning at this stage, that there are two seperate trains of thought when it comes to taking cuttings. Some (and I'm one of the 'some') prefer to use a means of keeping the cuttings in a hi-humidity environment like a humidity dome or a propagator. At least until the plants have roots. On the other hand, some people just drop an off-cut into a glass of water with absolutely no thought for the humidity relative to the cutting, and this works perfectly well for them. As I said earlier, there's no 'right way or wrong way', just your way and my way. Personally I like to use a propagator, and I use a hand-held garden spray to keep the inside of the propagator humid, with regular mistings. Everytime I open the propagator (with plants inside), all of the humidity trapped inside is lost to the plants for ever. Even though they have no roots yet, the plants continue to 'transpire moisture' out through the leaves. So by my own powers of deduction I reckon the plants are quite literally sweating themselves to death everytime I open the propagator, so I do it as little as possible, maintaining 'off the scale' humidity within. hi-humidity - all the time |
